Save, Don’t Splurge

 

It’s time to save money.

There are a ton of products out there in specialty beauty stores that cost a fortune. I must admit, I purchase a lot of these products out of curiosity because I often think, “if they can charge that much for this little then it must be good.” Most of the time it’s average and I force myself to use it up, while it sits on my cluttered counter or in my jam packed drawer.

I have been experimenting with less expensive options to find the right ones that work well with my skin and can really compare to high-end beauty products. Here are some of the winners so far.

First off, brush cleansers. We all know it is an absolute pain to clean our makeup brushes and we often prolong the process, even knowing the consequences. When brushes aren’t being cleaned, makeup is slowly building up and so is bacteria. The bacteria can cause breakouts and skin irritations. Don’t let your brushes be the start of a pimple attack. All you need is 10 minutes before you go to bed and a bottle of baby shampoo. Baby shampoo is gentle enough on your makeup brushes whether the bristles are real or faux.

Next, night moisturizer. Often, the biggest difference to me between a day and night moisturizer is the thickness. Night creams are a lot more expensive than day creams and the packaging is smaller. They are double the price so why break the bank when you’ve got coconut oil. It’s a miracle worker and is nice on the wallet. Coconut oil can also be used for other purposes such as eye makeup remover and body moisturizer. It also helps to prevent pre maturing aging because of the antioxidants.

Lastly, makeup remover. There are so many on the market and I find it difficult to choose. You never know if they have weird chemicals that will be harsh on your lashes… and us ladies need all the lashes we can get. Seriously, baby produts are amazing. If they are safe enough to use on a baby, why not use them on your skin now. Another option for on-the-go makeup removers are baby wipes! I find HUGGIES wipes are the best.

Next time you go to buy a $50 dollar moisturizer, think of the endless alternatives. The grocery store will often have a great affordable option… including olive oil. There are a lot of ways to be creative.
