Pop in to a Pop up

Winnipeg Etsy stores are coming to life this weekend at Old Market Square in The Exchange District.

On September 25 and 26, you’ll have the chance to shop at local vendors during the Fall Luckygirl Pop Up Shop and it’s all thanks to the talented girls from Luckygirl Wedding Photography, Mairen Kops and Rachael King.

I had the chance to chat with Kops, who said the Luckygirl Pop Up Shop all started after the girls noticed the talent around them and decided to bring everyone together into their studio to showcase their work.

“We’re artists and collaborating with other artists is a big thing for us,” says Kops.

Since starting the Pop Up, King has started RAE’s letterpress + print, and creates  prints that will be sold all weekend.

Many of these vendors have their own Etsy store, but being able to interact with the product and seller on a personal level is something Kops loves.

“It’s such a great sense of community to come and it’s really cool to be able to meet the maker behind whats being made or the artists,” says Kops. “There’s a really amazing exchange that happens between the vendors and people coming to see their stuff.”

All the vendors are hand picked, so there is something for everyone like jewelry, flowers, baby clothes, and food.

“We try to keep a good mix of things, we are very mindful of how we curate it and who we choose to be in it,” says Kops.  “It’s all things we love aesthetically and things that we’d buy ourselves.”

Over the past four years, Kops and King organize two events every year, but this one is unlike the others.

“This ones different for us because its our first outdoor one in Old Market Square and our biggest one,” says Kops. “We actually have a lot of new vendors that we haven’t had before which is exciting.”

You’ll be able to find vendors such as, Tony Chestnut, Prana Vida, Old Hat, and Coal and Canary.

It is also part of Culture Days and Nuit Blanche, which are both this weekend. Because of this, you’ll be able to shop till 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, which is later than pervious events.

There is a lot planned for the future of the Luckygirl Pop Up Shop. If you unfortunately cannot make it this weekend, you can expect another pop up around Christmas time.

Kops also says that the girls want to expand the size of the Pop Up and have them more often. They’ve even been approached by other locations around the city to host their Pop Up.

If you’re interested in becoming a vendor at the Luckygirl Pop Up Shop, all you need to do is fill out one of their submission forms and email it to info@luckygirl.com.

The Fall Luckygirl Pop Up Shop Details will be open on Saturday, September 26 from 12 p.m. – 11 p.m. and Sunday, September 27 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Don’t forget that it will be outdoors at Old Market Square!

Visit their Facebook and Instagram page to find out more information.

Tip: Most vendors will accept credit cards, but just to be safe, make sure you have some cash on you!
