A couple of weeks ago I went to Enigma Escapes with my family.
Enigma Espcapes is essentially a life-size board game that tests your problem-solving skills and ultimately, your teamwork. It can also test the relationships of whomever you are with. During the game, you will find clues, maps, and codes you will need to crack in 60 minutes.
Enigma Escapes opened two months ago and is already ranked number one on Trip Advisor for the best activity to do in Winnipeg. Enigma Escapes is located on Lorimer Boulevard across from The Golf Dome.
For players, it is $100 for up to four people and $25 for each additional person. It may seem strange to pay to get locked up in a room, but you’re the detective instead of going to a movie and watching someone solve a puzzle.
When you enter the room, you are surrounded with locked boxes and hidden clues. At first, it seems silly. You may find your group standing around staring at each other. Then, you realize the timer marked 60 minutes on the wall has begun, and you start rummaging through the room looking for clues.
It can take some time to get into the right mindset. You’ll start finding clues but question what exactly to do with them.
Enigma Escapes currently has two themed rooms, Prohibition – The Lucky Duck and The Lost Jewel of Zanzibar, which is the one we did. They are currently building two more rooms– Cypherspace and Blackbeard’s Brig.
Although the weather is getting much nicer, I highly advise you to go out and try it. Once you escape one room, you won’t want to stop. You will feel accomplished, be filled with adrenaline and most likely wanting to complete another room.
You have to reserve your spot on the website and they fill up fast, so book ahead.
